Emergency: Repeated straining with little or no urine can be life-threatening. Contact a veterinarian now.
Enrollment timing

Pre-existing does not always mean previously diagnosed.

A policy may treat signs, symptoms, advice, testing, or treatment documented before coverage or during a waiting period as pre-existing—even if the final diagnosis came later.

Why the medical timeline matters.

Most pet insurers exclude pre-existing conditions, but definitions differ. Some distinguish curable from incurable conditions or allow reconsideration after a symptom-free period. Only the policy and insurer can determine coverage.

Request the sample policy and ask how prior urinary signs, cystitis, crystals, blockage, kidney disease, or unexplained litter-box changes would be evaluated.
